Joyful Givers
It’s no secret that the children growing up today are associated with words like “entitled” and “narcissistic.” We live in a “selfie-focused” world that teaches them [and us] just that! Always looking to self-promote and self-fulfill. We get what we want when we want it and how we want it. Typically, it’s as close as a click on the computer.
But every once in a while, it’s these same children growing up in this distorted world who go against the current and teach us all a lesson we need more than we would prefer to admit.
Thick as thieves as best buds, two early-elementary school-aged girls* asked if they could have a joint birthday party, to celebrate their latest milestone together. And that wasn’t their only request. Along with the hope to party as a pair, they asked if instead of gifts they could receive donations to the Humane Society…and FaithBridge Foster Care. With an old shoebox that had a hole in the top, they collected cash on the day of the event.
Their cash collected raised several hundred dollars for FaithBridge.
When churches and families get involved with foster care ministry, the little people sometimes have the biggest ideas.
Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously. Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work. As it is written:
“They have freely scattered their gifts to the poor;
their righteousness endures forever.”–1 Corinthians 9:6-9
