Volunteer FAQs
1. How
do I become a volunteer with FaithBridge Foster Care?
The first step is to attend an Orientation
meeting at a FaithBridge partner church. Here, you'll receive
information on the country's foster care crisis, an overview of
FaithBridge Foster Care's model and an understanding of the
critical role volunteers play in a foster care ministry.
Afterwards, you must complete a volunteer application and attend
any additional training for the volunteer role(s) you select.
2.
What kind of volunteer opportunities are available?
There are many different roles a volunteer can
take on. Once a church commits to partner with FaithBridge Foster
Care, the first thing we do is establish a "core team" of
individuals, including volunteers, who work to build and promote
the ministry. Once the ministry leadership team is formed and the
ministry is ready to launch, volunteers serve as members the
Community of CareTM, providing support and resources for
foster families ranging from childcare and transportation to
clothing and supplies, social activities and family coaching.
3. How
do volunteers support the Community of Care?
Volunteers provide services in five key areas:
respite, transportation, clothing & supplies, family coaching
and social activities.
4.
What kind of training must I go through?
All volunteers go through some level of
training, but those who will interact with children must also
participate in the state-mandated IMPACT training, an intensive
18-hour weekend training retreat, and also undergo background
checks.
5. How
much time will I be expected to commit?
It will vary depending on the role you play. If
you let us know how many hours you can volunteer during a week or
month, we can place you in a role that best suits that time
commitment. Most of our volunteer positions range from 5 to 10
hours a month.
6. Are
there any expenses I must incur?
Typically, the only expenses you incur would be
those you choose-such as donating items, purchasing supplies, etc.
If you interact with the children, you must undergo a background
check, fingerprinting and drug screening. You will be responsible
for these expenses.
